Do good work
Short guides for people starting out. Plain words, no jargon.
Quoting a stat safely
- Say where it comes from and when: "since 1992", "this season", "up to Saturday". The Stat finder gives you both.
- Round sensibly and say so. "About one goal a game" is honest; "1.0476" is noise.
- A small sample is a story, not a trend. Five games can mean luck.
What you can and cannot show
- You can use your own words, your own drawings, Arena graphics and facts (results and scores are facts).
- Do not use TV match footage, broadcast audio or club photos you do not have rights to. Rights holders take channels down for it.
- Club badges are trademarks. Use team names and colours instead when you are not sure.
Reading chances without jargon
- A 60% chance means it happens about six times in ten, so it fails four times in ten. A miss does not mean the call was wrong.
- Judge callers over many games. Arena seals every call before kick-off so anyone can check its record.
Starting a show for £0
- A phone, a quiet room and free editing software are enough. Sound matters more than video.
- Pick one regular slot and keep it. A short weekly show beats an irregular long one.
- If you go live on video in the UK, read Ofcom’s guidance on livestreaming before you start.
